Underground world made of salt – tour to enchanted Wieliczka salt mine
Walk through network of tunnels to admire masterpieces carved in salt by miners.
The Wieliczka salt mine is one of the most amazing monuments in Polish cultural history listed on the UNESCO Cultural and Natural World Heritage List. Visitors can walk through a 3.5 kilometers long network located at a depth ranging between 64 m and 135 m to discover underground chapels and lakes. Original mining tunnels, devices and tools remind the story of the daily struggle of miners through the centuries.
The tour usually lasts 4-5 hours in total. It takes around 30 minutes to drive from the center of Krakow to Wieliczka. Standard guided tour through the salt mine lasts 2-3 hours: bear in mind that there are very long corridors and 800 steps to climb of which 350 have to be descended to reach the depth of 135 meters underground.
